The Spirit of '65
Viet Nam and Civil Rights,
Astronauts and tavern fights,
Silver standard -- yes or no,
Ministers versus a-go-go-go.
TV specials, Christmas Ball,
Communists, or Charles de Gaulle,
Time to place your New Year's bet,
Who's on first in Red Roulette?
Burning draft cards, year-end sales,
007, mates for whales,
Florida storms and record rains,
A husband at last for Luci Baines.
Vatican Council kills the pill;
Soon fish on Friday will be nil.
The door shuts on Red China again --
Peace on earth; good will toward men.

Several
classmates appear in the photo here as they
started out
at Longfellow Elementary School in 1953.
Can you help
Rick Davis identify them? Also help him build a
collection of Longfellow School class photos?

During the 1965-1966 season,
Jon Nelson, Mike Montgomery, Bob Tutland,
and Tom Cooper set a state record for the men's 400 yard
freestyle relay, with a time of 3:33:2 minutes.
The record still stands!
(Submitted by Mike Montgomery -- Note: Mike lost his
unfortunate
battle
with cancer in May 2006)

Life-long

hoist a glass of cheer (or two) to one another while on tour, and by all
accounts
on the loose, in the big sky country of Montana and Wyoming.

Golf Heaven & Art Alive in Gig Harbor
My husband Chris loves fishing and golf, so we
bought a home in Gig Harbor on
Wollochet Bay, in a development with its own marina, boat launch and
private beach.
This area is Golf heaven for golfers. For me, it is a very active ART alive
community.
I have a new studio and a neighbor who has a studio, and we are all ready having
fun.
We have almost an acre that has not been landscaped. We will be
busy kids here, but I love it!

Thanks for Class of 1966 Web Site
Thank you for the EHS Class
of 1966 web site. I went to Immaculate Conception
through the 8th grade and then went away to a religious high school, so I lost
touch with many old friends. Although I would have attended Cascade High School,
I knew many of the EHS students who attended Immaculate, and through
playing sports. It has been a nice journey down memory lane seeing the pictures
of my friends posted on the web site and reading the reunion booklet.

Doug Bell, Larry Hansen, and
their wives, Betts and Joan, get together for
Oktoberfest 2008. Before raising tankards in observance of the annual German
holiday, they are seen in the photo visiting King Luedwig's Castle, located
in Neuschwanstein near Fussen, Germany.

"Grinning" Cougars into Submission
Here Bob Crocker climbs
Coldwater Peak just before Thanksgiving. He
reports encountering not only snow half way up the peak but also COUGAR
tracks! Deciding to give chase, he planned to sneak up on the big cat
while in its lair sleeping, and then to "grin" it into submission (a technique,
he says, that is also successful on "babbling liberals"). Unfortunately,
the big cat slipped away, leaving Bob with only the hope it might
return to see him grin another day (in 2012?).

South Jr Classmates,
recognize who're behind these Foster-Grants?
They parted ways after middle school, and neither graduated from EHS (though
they are known to many of us!). These two close friends met up recently in
San Jose, CA, and sent along some pictures. Any guesses?

You may recognize several
classmates here, pictured as they
started out at Lowell School kindergarten in 1953.
But does anyone know the names of the triplets, and
what became of them?
(Submitted by Dean DeRosa)

A gold star goes to Janet
Galbraith-Mason for identifying
the triplets' first names as Linda,
Lorna and Louise, and
another gold star goes to Cheryl Thomas-Mongeon for
identifying their last name as Hubbard!
